Rolfing – Structural Integration

“This is the gospel of Rolfing: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Than, spontaneously, the body can heal itself.”  Dr. Ida P. Rolf

Dr. Rolf spent over 50 years exploring the relationship of structure, function and gravity. She discovered that by balancing the tensions in the myofascial network, a body could become better organized and aligned. The person would become more vertical, graceful and efficient. Also, clients often experienced significant psychological change during the course of a Rolfing series.

For our new adult clients we utilize the basic ten session Rolfing series. This series enables us to address the whole myofascial system. In the first three sessions we bring balance to the superficial fascia that is just below the skin. Sessions four through seven concentrate on a deeper layer of tissue that is closer to the body’s core. Each of the first seven sessions concentrates on a different area of the body: the trunk, lower leg, pelvis, etc. In the last three sessions our attention shifts towards improving the integration of the whole structure in gravity.

Each of our clients come to Rolfing with their own unique challenges. Some of our patients come with physical problems including arthritis, tendonitis, neurologic problems, neck and back pain. People also see us to improve performance in sports and in the arts. We are always mindful of your needs and goals in the context of the Rolfing series.

Rolfing helps to:

  • Improve your posture & alignment at any time of life
  • Improve you balance and coordination
  • Unlock chronic tensions and release chronic shortenings
  • Move with greater freedom, ease and efficiency
  • Reduce or eliminate chronic pain
  • Recover from injury
